Sludge Dewatering System

Sludge Dewatering 1
Sludge Dewatering 2

Mit Water supplies sludge dewatering systems including screw presses, belt filter presses and decanter centrifuges for reducing the volume and weight of sludge generated in water and wastewater treatment processes. Effective dewatering significantly reduces sludge handling, transport and disposal costs.

Working Principle

Conditioned sludge is fed into the dewatering equipment where mechanical forces separate water from solids. In a screw press, a slowly rotating screw conveys sludge through a cylindrical screen while progressively increasing pressure. In a belt filter press, sludge is sandwiched between two porous belts and squeezed through a series of rollers. In a decanter centrifuge, high-speed rotation generates centrifugal force to separate solids from liquid. All three technologies produce a cake with 15-25% dry solids.

System Features

Each dewatering system includes a polymer preparation and dosing unit, sludge feed pump, dewatering machine, cake conveyor, filtrate collection, and a PLC control panel. The screw press offers low-speed, low-noise operation. The belt press provides high throughput. The centrifuge offers enclosed, odour-controlled operation with compact footprint.

Sludge dewatering systems serve a wide range of sludge types:

  • Municipal wastewater treatment primary and secondary sludge
  • Industrial wastewater treatment biological and chemical sludge
  • Food and beverage processing waste sludge
  • Pulp and paper mill sludge
  • Dyeing and textile wastewater sludge
  • Chemical precipitation sludge from metal finishing
  • Water treatment plant alum and lime sludge
